Baptism is the first and necessary sacrament to become a Christian. Baptism can be undertaken at any age. Baptism frees us from sin and makes us members of the Christian community. We become sons and daughters of God.

Baptism is modeled upon the baptism of Christ Himself. Water is used to symbolize death to sin, life in Christ and the cleansing of the soul from all sin, including original sin. The words used are, “I baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.” Typically, a priest or deacon is the one who baptizes.

Baptism for an Infant

1. If you haven’t already, please register as a member of the parish.
2. Fill out this form to indicate your interest in having your child baptized at Our Lady, and to register for our Baptism & Beyond Parent Formation Session. Learn more about our Baptism and Beyond Parent Formation here.
3. Meet with the office staff responsible for Baptism who will reach out to you after receiving your Formation Session registration.
4. Attend the Formation Session
5. Choose sponsors/godparents based on the guidelines provided. Obtain letters of good standing from their parish if it is not Our Lady. Provide names of Our Lady potential sponsors.
6. Once the godparents have been accepted with letters of good standing on file, you will be given the link to schedule the Baptism.

Baptism for Adults

Adults seeking Baptism in the Catholic Church receive the sacrament through the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults, or OCIA.

“Baptism is God’s most beautiful and magnificent gift…We call it gift, grace, anointing, enlightenment, garment of immortality, bath of rebirth, seal, and most precious gift. It is called gift because it is conferred on those who bring nothing of their own; grace since it is given even to the guilty; Baptism because sin is buried in the water; anointing for it is priestly and royal as are those who are anointed; enlightenment because it radiates light; clothing since it veils our shame; bath because it washes; and seal as it our guard and the sign of God’s Lordship.”
